The Greater Richmond Irish Setter "Glee" Club Performs
  The Glee Club
Members of the club participated in an International Dog Show in Richmond with nine puppies. The photo above shows some of them lined up waiting for the show to start. They were quite vocal during the day as other participants passed them. Except for the Mastiffs when they all became quiet and watched as the two dogs walked by, then they started their usual chatter! Several dogs earned a vaiety of awards and medals. It was a successful two days for the Irishers!

  Club History

The Irish Setter Club of Greater Richmond (ISCGR) was founded in 1973 by a group of Irish Setter enthusiasts in the Richmond area.  The membership quickly expanded and included people ranging from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area to the Shenandoah Valley.  In the early days the Club organized the required number of matches which were held outdoors in Richmond.  The present president of the Club, John Savory, judged one of the first matches.  Once AKC approval was obtained specialties were held in conjunction with the Richmond Kennel Club all breed show which at that time was held at the State Fairgrounds in Richmond.  Eventually, independent specialties were held at the end of October at various parks in Richmond on the Friday before the Middleburg KC show.  In the period around 2000 the specialty moved to the Middleburg KC all breed show on the same Friday but this had to be discontinued when the all breed club changed their show dates to the Saturday and Sunday.  Starting around 2003 the ISCGR supported the Charlottesville Albermarle KC shows in early June and in 2008 moved back to having an independent specialty in the Richmond area on a Friday in late October.  The Club has a solid membership which has spread over a large geographic area extending to Ohio, upstate New York and as far south as Florida.  This broad membership has seen the club through difficult times and has provided a base for some truly successful specialties and a successful bid to host the 2013 Irish Setter Club of America National Specialty.
